submission guidelines
We appreciate and elevate all different facets of the human experience, including stories with both gravity and levity. We’re looking for writing that feels authentic, intimate and empathetic.
We love accessible, unpretentious literature. We love cozy literature, with a reading experience that's like indulging in comfort food with your favorite people while the fireplace flickers behind you. Stories that capture the delightful contrast between a chilled rocks glass and a hot cup of coffee—the melting pot of focused intellectual stimulation and the warm embrace of a good story.
While we encourage writing about an array of topics, we are interested in uplifting the voices of those who may not have access to more traditional venues. We aim to minimize harm and emphasize care. This is a place to come together and take care of each other.
We accept fiction, nonfiction, poetry, reviews, essays and interviews. All work should be previously unpublished. Please see below for specific criteria. If we enjoy your work, expect to hear from us within a month of submission. This is a small literary magazine run by graduate students, so we cannot offer financial compensation for published pieces. We’ve started this outlet as a way of fostering a community as in love with storytelling as we are. There is no submission fee.
Please use the following format for all submissions: 12-point font, double-spaced, page numbers, your name and email on the first page. Submit your piece as an attachment saved with your name to an email and include your genre in the subject line.
Fiction:
We accept short stories and novel excerpts, all previously unpublished. Please limit word count to 5,000 words. You can submit up to one piece at once.
Nonfiction:
We accept personal essays, interviews, craft essays on writing and book reviews, all previously unpublished. Please limit word count to 3,000 words. You can submit up to one piece at once.
Poetry:
We accept all forms of poetry, previously unpublished. Please keep the poem to one page or under in length. You can submit up to six poems at once. Please note that if you submit more than one poem, it does not guarantee all will be published. We will be reviewing each poem independently.
